FAQs

What is Stonite?

Stonite is a single layer cement and aggregate based tile used for indoor and outdoor floor covering and wall cladding, produced by vibro-compaction under vacuum.

What is the significance of the technology utilized to produce Stonite?

Stonite utilizes vibro-compaction under vacuum technology to produce its products, which results in aggregate cement tiles with very minimal water ratio, very dense surface in comparison to classical terrazzo tiles, as well as much higher tensile and compression strength.

Currently what are the standard Stonite tile sizes?

Stonite tiles are produced 400x400mm and 600x600mm with 4 sides finished and 1530x680mm slabs with unfinished sides.

All tile and slab products are thickness calibrated to their intended thicknesses. 400x400mm tiles can be produced between 15-18mm thickness, 600x600mm tiles can be produced between 20-30mm thickness and 1530x680mm slabs can be produced between 25-30mm thickness.

Beyond the standard sizes tiles and slabs can be cut to required sizes at the factory as well.

How are the sides of the tiles finished?

Sides of 400x400mm and 600x600mm tiles are calibrated and rectified on all four sides, with chamfered edges. 1530x680mm slabs are not finished, however, they can be cut to desired size with finished edges upon request at the factory.

How are Stonite products classified in terms of fire rating?

Stonite products are cement, water and aggregate based. They are not combustible and safe in terms of fire. NFPA ratings are such:

In terms of Euroclass system for Fire Classification Stonite products meet:

ᴬ¹ᶠˡ (non-combustible material for floor covering) rating.

These make Stonite products safe to use at home or public areas, as well as staircases, especially fire escape stairs in tall buildings.

What types of materials are used in Stonite products?

Stonite products are based on crushed stone aggregate first class Portland White Cement, water and some pigments for coloring. The aggregates are generally marble chips from our or external quarries. Also, granite, basalt, or quartz aggregate may also be used depending on the product.

How does Stonite obtain different colors or patterns in the products?

Besides the natural colors and patterns and sizes of different stone aggregates, Stonite products utilize various premium pigments for colors.

What types of edge profiled can Stonite products have?

Besidest he standard rectified edges with chamfered profile, various edge profiles can be requested:

What types of surface finishes can Stonite products have?

Stonite products can have surface finishes depending on the needs and likings:

  • Polished

  • Honed or Matte

  • Antiqued

  • Bush hammered or Sand Blasted
